Tables - 2° tranche

Let's answer some frequently asked questions forwarded to us by our customers.

This month's topic: tables.

After an initial session in which we dealt with more general questions regarding regulations (if you are interested, here is the link:  https://catas.com/en-GB/news/reazione-al-fuoco), we will now focus on questions relating to more practical aspects, such as:

  1. How many samples do you need for testing?
  2. Do we need to send the samples already assembled?
  3. Which documentation do you need to perform the tests?
  4. What happens if a test is negative? Do I have to start all over again?
  5. If necessary, can you make the necessary modifications to the sample? For example, if screws are missing, can you add them?

1. How many samples do you need for testing?
The number of samples varies according to the required standards.
In Europe, if you only need to perform tests in accordance with one standard, a single sample will be sufficient. However, if you want to perform tests on the same product in accordance with two standards, it is best to have two separate samples so that, having already tested the same sample in accordance with another standard, the subsequent results are not affected.
The issue is different again if we consider the American ANSI-BIFMA standard: this does not require all tests to be performed on the same sample, so it is possible to send multiple samples to perform tests according to the same standard.
We are always available to provide you with the necessary information.

2. Do we need to send the samples already assembled?
For convenience and, above all, for reasons of space, we ask you to send unassembled samples whenever possible, so that we can assemble them ourselves when testing is ready to begin.
You will therefore need to provide us with assembly instructions either with the package or by email.

3. What documentation do you need to perform the tests?
First of all, confirmation of the quote, because without it, it will not be possible to start testing, as it contains all the required data.

Returning to the topic of assembly mentioned in the previous question, it is essential to have assembly instructions above all where the samples can be assembled by the end user.

In addition, the product data sheet, containing the following information:

o    indication of the intended use, consistent with the test request;
o    instructions on the maintenance and cleaning of the table;
o    instructions on the functioning of any mechanisms.

4. What happens if a test is negative? Do I have to start all over again?
If a defect is found during testing, the tests will be interrupted and the test report will be issued.
In this case, in order to achieve compliance, it will be necessary to send a new sample to verify again whether, with any changes made, the product will be compliant. It will therefore be necessary to perform all tests again, even those that were positive in the old report.
Compliance is achieved by having an entire report that complies with the standard, with all tests performed on the same sample.

5. If necessary, can you make the necessary modifications to the sample? For example, if screws are missing, can you add them?
Under no circumstances may laboratory technicians alter with the sample: it is the manufacturer's responsibility to provide all the material necessary for carrying out the tests.
Any modifications or adjustments to the sample will be carried out by the customer with the support of the reference technician.

If you have any further questions regarding the tables, please remember we are always available
