Fire Department

The Fire Department carries out fire reaction tests in order to evaluate how materials react when exposed to fire under certain conditions.
The fire reaction tests are not to be confused with the fire resistance tests by which the resistance of a product (wall, ceiling, column, beam, fire door) is evaluated in terms of time.
By our testing equipment we are able to classify products according to the fire reaction test methods related to: 

• Italian standards (UNI);
• European standards (EN), limited to upholstered furniture;
• Other countries standards (i.e.: standards BS, Technical Bulletin 117, IMO), limited to upholstered furniture.

Experience and specialization: the standardization activities.

Our strength lies in people: CATAS technicians contribute to the standardization at national level (UNI), by participating to the Working Group " Fire Reaction ", Commission "Combustion behavior".

Since 2000 Catas is authorized by the Italian Home Office to issue test certificates for the fire reaction sector necessary to obtain the ministerial homologation.
