CATAS is recognized lab for the VOC emission tests by GEV-EMICODESince people are spending more and more time indoors during the recent years the problem of
indoor air quality with particular attention to the level of emissions from materials is becoming very important.
Over the years, in order to achieve greater energy savings, people have closed and insulated our living environments better and better without adapting the ventilation and this has led to an unavoidable
concentration of volatile organic compounds (VOC) considered pollutants.
Indoor sources of chemicals can be biogenic or anthropogenic. The biogenic ones are perhaps the most harmless while the most dangerous ones are the anthropogenic ones.
Emissions from materials such as: paints, adhesives, coatings, sealants and other building materials, can considerably increase the concentration of harmful volatile organic compounds in the air in a worrying way.
Based on this situation, the
German floor adhesive manufacturers have decided to develop and market low-emission products.Since it is also necessary to provide a reliable instrument to all the actors involved in the process, from production to the installation of materials, the
EMICODE mark was established as a registered and impartial classification rating system and was created GEV "Association for the Control of Emissions in Products for Flooring Installation, Adhesives and Building Materials ”(Gemeinschaft Emissionskontrollierte Verlegewerkstoffe, Klebstoffe und Bauprodukte eV”) as the body responsible for authorizing and supervising this labeling scheme.
Over the years GEV has become an international institution capable of making a fundamental contribution to health and safety.
To ensure impartiality, GEV does not perform the tests itself but commissions them directly to recognized external laboratories. To obtain this recognition, the laboratory must be ISO 17025 accredited, have accredited the specific standard EN 16516 and participate in a series of interlaboratory circuits.
CATAS being in possession of all the prerequisites and on the basis of the excellent results obtained by participating in the interlaboratory circuit, has been included in the list of recognized and recommended laboratories (visit: www.emicode.com/en/laboratories) where companies, for their products, can perform chamber emissions tests to be used for the '' obtaining the GEV-EMICODE mark.
