On July 7, 2021 the Regulation "Formaldehyde Emissions from Composite Wood Products Regulations" was published in the Official Gazette Canadian "Canada Gazette - Part II" .
The new law will regulate
since 2023 in Canada the formaldehyde emissions from composite-based products wood.
The regulations would help reduce exposure of Canadians to formaldehyde emissions in indoor air from composite wood products sold, offered for sale or imported into Canada. The regulations would place limits on the amount of formaldehyde that composite wood products can emit. Further to the requirements to meet emission limits, the regulations impose requirements on industry for record-keeping, labelling, and reporting. They also align Canadian requirements for composite wood products with similar requirements in the United States (U.S. TSCA Title VI), thereby helping to minimize burden for businesses operating in both Canada and the U.S.
The only difference with respect to TSCA Title VI concerns the labeling for which minimum font sizes are provided, must be limited by a box, and must appear in two languages: in English and French.
