Last 12th and 13th November, a meeting of working group 2 “children’s furniture” was held at our laboratories in San Giovanni al Natisone (UD).
The most important topic on the agenda was the drafting of a new document on the
assessment of the safety, stability and strength requirements of children’s tables.
In 2021, the same group of experts had concluded its work on the EN 17191 standard, which later has been harmonized, on children’s seating: it applies to all types of children’s seats for indoor, outdoor, domestic and community use (the educational environment is excluded as it is already covered by EN 1729-1 and 2).
Therefore, the experts’ desire was to prepare a similar document that verifies the safety and stability of
children’s tables, which are
not currently covered by any technical standard.
The meeting was attended by
14 experts from various Countries (Germany, France, Sweden, Denmark, England and Italy).
The two days were very fruitful as it was possible to
directly check in the laboratory the correctness of the loads and cycles proposed for the verification of the strength of these products.
What will be the future of this document?
In the next few months, the process foreseen by the standardization will begin and therefore, briefly:
- creation of "Work Item"
- preparation of comments
- enquiry
- formal vote
- publication
The publication of this document as a standard could take place in 2027.
