The new standard on domestic seating is coming:

The CEN, starting from November 13th, has made available the new version of the standard that defines safety, strength and durability requirements of seating for domestic use.
It has replaced the version previously published in 2015.

These are the main changes introduced:
- an updated of the method of finger entrapment assessment, in line with CEN/TR 17202;
- an added reference to single column seating, with related durability test.

The first modification was deemed necessary to align this standard with CENT/TR 17202 and other outgoing standards; the new method requires a new probe (shape assessment probe).

The second new feature has been considered necessary to be able to verify the strength of chairs with a central column: the seat front edge fatigue test has not been considered enough. This test, already requested for office chairs, has also been introduced in school chairs.

When UNI will published it as UNI EN 12520, it will become national standard, and it will be possible to start using it.
CATAS will update the list of accredited standards as soon as possible, adding this latest version.

We remain at your disposal for any further clarification.
