Safety and quality of raw materials
The Chemical Analysis Section is equipped with advanced instruments for the FTIR spectroscopy (FTIR), element analysis (AA, ICP), chromatography (GC, GC-MS, HPLC, LC-MS) and thermal analysis (DSC, TGA, DMA).
By the use of such analytical techniques and by the support of the long experience of the CATAS chemists we can carry out accurate qualitative and quantitative analysis to investigate the chemical composition of a wide range of materials.
These analysis can be used to recognize the chemical nature of resins, plastics, adhesives, coatings and many other materials. They are also useful to assess the chemical safety of raw materials and finished products considering their potential emissions of volatile organic compounds, the presence of heavy metals or other dangerous substances such as: plasticizers, monomers or preservatives.
Moreover, chemical analysis represent a fundamental tool for the quality control of in-coming raw materials and for the investigations on possible defects affecting materials, semi-finished and finished products.
