What is the meaning of the FLEGT and CITES acronyms?

FLEGT stands for Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade. In the Regulation (EC) No. 2173/2005 of December 20, 2005 relating to the establishment of a licensing system (FLEGT) for timber import into the European Community, the FLEGT licensing scheme is defined as the system of licenses for standards application, governance and trade in the forestry sector. CITES stands for Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of wild fauna and flora. It is the Washington Convention on International Trade in endangered species of wild fauna and flora.
