Learning towers

In the previous weeks, also a CATAS technician has participated, as a member of Uni, at the first meetings for the drafting of the new standard on "Learning Towers".
These products have been introduced on the market few years ago and they are intended to get children to participate in adult activities, bringing them up to the worktop. They are increasingly replacing the chair or stool that many parents often use to allow the child to approach the kitchen counter, for example to actively participate in the preparation of food, always supervised by an adult.
The members of the various European countries that participated at CEN meetings were immediately in agreement about the issue that these products should be covered by a technical standard which would define their safety, stability and strength requirements: these are in fact the topics on which is working in the Technical Commission 364.
This commission already worked on the EN 14988 "high chairs for children" standard. Learning towers and high chairs may appear as similar products, but the considerations people in CEN are working on mainly concern the skills and abilities of children in the age range of using this product.
The writing of this new document will last a few years, CATAS will take part in and will promptly give you information about it.
